Style
Aqaba is a four-piece, rock/indie/space (?) band based near Bath, performing our own songs. Musical style influences are too numerous to list.
Personnel
The songs to date have often started as guitar-based compositions by Andrew (guitar/vocals), but the strength of Aqaba, is the contributions made, both musically and imaginatively, by all members of the band. Coming to the project from a range of musical backgrounds, Mark (piano/keyboards/vocals), James (drums/vocals) and Jack (bass/vocals) work to develop the songs from the initial ideas, without restrictions of genre or pre-conceived boundaries.
Discography
The first EP,‘A Question of Going’, was recorded in the spring of 2018, followed by ‘Dive’ in 2019.
Lockdown presented us with an extended songwriting opportunity and we were able to record the album, ‘Dry the Rain’, which was released in November 2021. These songs pushed us to develop the complexity and instrumentation of the songs.
It was great to work with some guest musicians on the album. Our friend and singer, Zoe Newton, went on to work with us as a writer and vocalist on the last EP, ‘ Beauty and the Deadheads’, which we released in July 2023.
Our live shows can also feature Zoe, singer Becky Lawrence and guitarist Alex Maidment.
